The School Context

Ysgol Bro Brynach is located in the rural village of Llanboidy which is north of Hendygwyn-ar-daf and within the boundaries of Carmarthenshire. The school was named Ysgol Bro Brynach because of the history of Sant Brynach which is linked to the area. Ysgol Bro Brynach was opened in 2004 in a new building with purpose-built facilities after the closure of four local schools. Around 90 pupils now attend the school starting their education in the Nursery class. The school is a district school with children coming from the communities of Cwmbach, Henllan Amgoed, Llanboidy and Llangynin.

The school has four classes, a library, an intervention room and a hall. There are play areas and a field on the school grounds including an outdoor learning room and a garden. Also on the school site, is the old school which is a grade 2 listed building. The Primary School was built in 1863-4 at the expense of W.R.H. Powell, Maesgwyn to provide education for local children. Today, the building is used as a hall and canteen. Also, the village’s resources are used to enrich the pupils’ learning and offer valuable experiences beyond the school site.

Welsh is the official language of the school. In the Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 classes, Welsh is the only medium of learning. In the Junior classes, Years 3-6, Welsh and English are used as a medium of learning with the aim of enabling the pupils to become fully bilingual by the time they transfer to secondary school.

Our aim is to guide, encourage and nurture skills providing experiences in a happy and caring atmosphere where all learners can be supported, stimulated and challenged to reach their full potential.
